Things are beginning to heat up here in Vegas. The crowd has begun to change; shorts have replaced the suited attire of the visitors. What the previous months offered in conventioneers, these warmer months will draw real tourists walking around town, gawking at the spectacle of a city that has erupted out of the desert.
Baseball has replaced football-fortunately basketball has come and gone. The pace of it all has slowed to a lull, while occasionally you'll hear the mentioning of football beginning again not so long from now in August. "It's really not that far away," they'll say, "only a couple more months of this heat to endure and football season will be in action again!"
Those who live here will try to combat the heat with air conditioning and beer, while those visiting won't much curb their hustle and bustle as they fervently punish their bodies through the heat until vacation time is over and they're home once again.
While those people are here though, how can we help them? If they play craps, we can show them how to win a lot of money. That truly does seem to be one common denominator they all possess.
I'll tell you what happened to me one time. After all, I suppose the greatest truth behind all these newsletters is that, those of you who receive them get to learn from my own personal experiences and the stories I tell, rather than having to spend the time at craps tables like I have in order to reach the higher level of understanding which has been revealed during such a process.
So there I stood at a craps table on one of those eventful ventures when things have gone so well to my having elevated a $25 bet to a $3,000 bet, which to my pleasure got hit and paid me $6,000. Not too long thereafter, another bet got hit and because I only had $25 bet on it, I got paid the appropriate pay-off, which was a pretty ridiculous amount compared to the $6,000 pay off I'd received previously.
The pit boss looked at me and said, "Let me guess? That's the first time you'd hit that bet." I said, "Yeah, that's right," not thinking much about it, because I was caught up in the moment of it all, mostly mentally absorbed in my $6,000 collection. The roll ended, I harvested a neat little score of eight or ten thousand and went along my way. It took me two days of rolling that remark over in my mind, before it finally hit me-he was right! Why if I'd just gotten paid $6,000, did I have a scrawny, little $25 bet out there? What an idiot! I'd gotten exactly what I deserved when it did hit. And the pit boss was making fun of me for it. Yeah, I got exactly what I deserved!
It may have taken me two days to figure it out, but at least I did figure it out. Fact of the matter is though, I don't deserve the credit. I'd been doing the same thing for years and I never recognized the higher understanding. It was the remark made while laughing at me which caused me to break it down. Sometimes, and it's always in the heat of a good roll, when your mind is excited concerning the present goings on, that you most need to think. That is precisely the time when you need to think outside the perimeters of the step-by-step procedures I've taught you, and incorporate those upper-level money management skills which I'm alluding to now.
In order to "think outside the box," you have to think and play craps at the same time. When people come to me for a private lesson, it's easy enough to express this to them; in the book, it wasn't possible because there are intangibles which must be simulated. In print that's practically impossibility. It would create confusion for a lot of people. But in a personal, one-on-one basis, I can make sure it's well understood.
Thinking and playing craps at the same time can elevate you scores. It's easy enough to recognize once it's been pointed out. The table tells you when to make the move.
I apologize for the lack of conclusiveness this article has no doubt left within most of your minds. All I can tell you is that there are definite situations that present themselves as having distinctly more profitable results. By far the easiest manner for me to convey these features to you is to show them to you.
In getting a grasp on this entire concept, I hope you'll realize that all this is not a science-it's still gambling. In your awareness of that, it's easily enough understood that there are times to "stick your neck out there" a little bit.
There is one huge consolation in this process though: When we do choose to "stick our neck out there" we're not using money out of our own pocket, we're using the casino's money to do it. I personally believe that equates to a no lose situation. Gambling smartly does have its benefits.
Well, for those of you who haven't done so already, give Margaret a call so you can set up an appointment where I can personally upgrade your understanding of how to make some bigger scores at a craps table.
We look forward to hearing from you, Gene and Margaret
